Scratch Built Rocket
Your Mission:
Form a Team:
Materials List:
Friday: Get my plans approve and build the body
Monday:Fins and the nosecone and the motor
Tuesday:Parachute, Camera and recovery wadding
Wednesday:Put everything together
What your team must do:
The Planning Stage:
The planning of this rocket construction is the most vital as it sets the stage for all that follows. The main considerations for planning include three questions:
Your Mission:
- Armed with the experience you’ve gained throughout this project, your team is tasked with the challenge of designing and constructing a rocket completely from scratch. Each thing in RED must be posted to your blog. We suggest you simply make a copy of this document and edit it as you need, then post a link to it on your blog.
Form a Team:
- Each team must consist of three members, list them below.
- Team Name: Google
- 1.) Isaac
- 2.) Owen
- 3.)

- Balsa wood
- Wood glue
- Super glue
- Camera
- Motor casing
- Black powder
- Fuse
- Sand paper
- Barax
- Tape
- String
- Rubberband
- Cutting tools
- Craft paper
- Plastic bag
Friday: Get my plans approve and build the body
Monday:Fins and the nosecone and the motor
Tuesday:Parachute, Camera and recovery wadding
Wednesday:Put everything together
What your team must do:
- Prepare well illustrated designs for your rocket, including all vital components.
- Gather materials.
- Construct the rocket.
The Planning Stage:
The planning of this rocket construction is the most vital as it sets the stage for all that follows. The main considerations for planning include three questions:
- What is it going to look like? Our rocket is going to be 20 In and we're gonna make the fins and the nose cone out of balsa wood.
- Can we put our ideas to paper?yes
- How are we going to making this happen? We're gonna make this happen by getting all the material we need and help of our teachers.
- What is it going to look like? Our rocket is going to be 20 In and we're gonna make the fins and the nose cone out of balsa wood. We want our rocket to go straight up and then come down. Owen and Isaac are gonna both contribute in the building.
- Can we put our ideas on paper? - This part of the planning stage involves putting the team vision to paper so that you can answer the question of “How will we make this happen?” Although there are more components to rockets that your team can design, below are the essential ones that are necessary. Prepare illustrated plans of the following:
- The body: what diameter, how tall, what material, any attachments (EX)
- The nose cone: dimensions, material, shape
- The fins: dimensions, material, shape
- The engine housing: components, functionality, material
- The parachute: shape, material
- Any additional components
Exploration project Initial proposal - We are going to build 3 UAV's that will be flying, water, and air
- What are you in charge of and what have you done? I don't know what i'm in charge of, but I have looked for parts for planes online. I would do more if my group leader told us what to do because right now I don't think me and brandon know what to do. but we've done what he asked us to do. and i'm guessing since he hasn't asked us to do anything, he doesn't want us to do anything.
- What are you going to do next? We're going to build our final plane and fly it to see if it works because our first prototype didn't work so we're going to build a new design and test it.
- What have you learned so far in your open exploration? I have learned that planes need to be exact and that planes need to have no flaws to help it fly better because if you have flaws and if its not exact its not going to fly well what so ever. Also I learned that without group communication nothing will be done.
- Group progress? Our group leader jacob says that we do nothing and that he asks us to do stuff but I can tell you that he almost never asks us to do stuff, but he still talks about how he does everything. I've asked to do stuff but the stuff he tells me to do is the small things like looking stuff up or finding stuff on the internet. and when I ask to help to build he ignores me. I want to help build the plane and I want to have a big part in the plane's construction.
- What is complete and what needs to be done next? We completed getting the parts we need for our plane so we need to build an aerodynamic plane.
